If you have current or recent experience of using SEL Mind services as a carer in dementia, this opportunity may be for you.

South East London Mind is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for people with Lived Experience of mental health problems and dementia to contribute to the support we offer.

We currently do this in a range of ways:

  • Co-production of service models and involvement in service design
  • Involvement in delivery of services in paid and volunteer peer support roles
  • Involvement on recruitment panels
  • Involvement in the delivery of training
  • Contributing to service development through focus groups and other feedback mechanisms

But we are keen to do more.

We are looking for people who have used our dementia services to support the strategic direction of the charity. As a Lived Experience Consultant, you would be part of a highly regarded local charity, helping people to be mentally healthy and working together with those experiencing mental health problems and dementia to improve their quality of life.

As part of a team of six Lived Experience Consultants, you will contribute to the work of the organisation by sharing your views, perspectives and insights in a range of ways:

  • Contribute to the work of the Quality and Performance Committee by reviewing papers and attending quarterly meetings to share your views
  • Engage in opportunities identified by the Senior Management Team or Board of Trustees where the voice of a Lived Experience Consultant can contribute to strategic decision making
  • Take part in external meetings where the voice of people who use SEL Mind services can be represented through your role as a Lived Experience Consultant.

It is important that our Lived Experience Consultant team enable us to hear views from a diverse range of experiences. We are particularly keen to ensure that our Lived Experience Consultant team includes diversity in relation to age, gender, and ethnicity. It is important that those voices come from the experience of using services across all our boroughs.

This role will include a mix of remote and in-person working.

Closing date: Sunday 20th July (11:59pm)

Likely interview date: Week beginning 28th July

We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high number of applications.

SEL Mind supports people with mental health problems and dementia in the boroughs of Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. We are proud of our diverse workforce and know that our organisation is made stronger by the variety of backgrounds, experience, and ideas within it. We promote a culture of inclusion and representation, and are working hard to build a workforce that even better reflects the communities we support.

SEL Mind is somewhere that you can be your authentic self without fear of discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, neurodivergence, gender, age, lived experience of mental health problems or anything else that’s part of who you are.
